A solid assistant for receipts!

I got a fantastic deal through my accountant for Dext Precision, which was a nice bonus! It's been incredibly helpful for wrangling all my receipts and invoices, especially with the Dext Web App for quick uploads. Sometimes the categorization needs a tiny tweak, but overall it saves me so much time.

Still reliable, year after year

I've been using Dext for my small business for years, back when it was still called Receipt Bank. This latest annual renewal was just as smooth as always. I mainly rely on the automated data extraction and expense management. It continues to be reliable, always processing my receipts and bank statements quickly. I haven't really had any issues with consistency over time, which is why I keep coming back instead of trying other platforms.

Easy setup, quick scan

I just got Dext Prepare last week. It was super easy to get started. Scanned a few receipts with the mobile app, and it pulled out the info pretty fast. Glad I tried it out.

Decent tool for our practice

We've been using Dext Precision for a while now, primarily for its data quality tools and practice insights. The initial setup involved linking it to our existing accounting platforms, which took a bit of back and forth with their support team, but they were helpful in getting it sorted. I appreciate how it flags potential issues in client data, making tax compliance smoother. We also tried the Dext Commerce feature for one of our e-commerce clients, and the integration with their sales data worked surprisingly well. The dashboard is pretty intuitive, though it took a few days to get used to all the different reports. It's a big step up from manual checks.

Good for invoices, minor hiccup

I used Dext for invoice processing this month. It's really good at extracting data, which saves a lot of time. The integration with my cloud accounting software was smooth, no issues there. I did have one receipt that took a bit longer than usual to process, maybe an hour, but overall it's a solid tool for the price. Customer service was responsive when I had a question about multi-currency support.

Thinking of moving my sole trader accounts to Dext Prepare. Currently doing everything manually, and it's a mess. Anyone else using it for just themselves? Is it overkill or actually helpful for a small scale?

R RahulK 4 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
Hey Priya, I started using Dext Prepare for my freelance work about 6 months ago. It's definitely not overkill. The receipt scanning and automatic data extraction save me so much time. No more piles of paper or trying to remember what that random transaction was for. It integrates nicely with my Xero account too, which is super convenient for tax time.

Yeah, bank statement extraction works pretty well. Saves me hours.

Does it handle bank statements easily too?

I'm a sole trader too, and honestly, the free trial is the best way to see if it fits your workflow. I found it a bit much initially, but once I got the hang of the mobile app for scanning, it made a huge difference. Especially for those small, frequent expenses.

Good point about the free trial. I'll check that out.

For sole traders, is Dext Prepare MTD compliant? That's my main concern.

R RahulK 4 weeks ago
Yes, it is MTD compliant. That's one of the reasons my accountant recommended it.

My Dext subscription just renewed and the price seems higher than last year. I thought I had an annual discount. Anyone else notice a jump? Wondering if I missed something or if rates generally increased.

C coolboy88 1 week ago ✓ Best Answer
Same here! My renewal for Dext Precision was definitely more this time around. I was on a partner discount through my accountant initially, and I suspect that expired without me realizing. Have you checked if you were on a special offer?

That's a good point, I think I was on an intro rate. I'll ask my accountant.

D Deepu 1 week ago
Yeah, often those intro rates or bundle discounts don't automatically carry over.

I haven't noticed any change in my Dext Prepare subscription, but I'm on a long-term contract through my practice. Might be specific to certain plans or offers.

Following this, curious to see what they say.

Could be the annual billing discount. If you switched to monthly, that would increase the total cost. Or maybe a seasonal offer from last year ended? They sometimes have those around Diwali.

G gamerraj 1 week ago
I'm still on annual, so not that. But the seasonal offer is a possibility.

Thinking of trying Dext for my small biz. Is the free trial actually useful or is it super limited?

C Cody Romero 2 months ago
Yeah, the 14-day trial is pretty much full-featured. Lets you really kick the tires before committing.

It's decent. I used it to process a bunch of receipts and it worked fine. Didn't feel like they were holding back much.

Is Dext really that much better than Expensify? I've used Expensify before, and it was okay but kinda clunky.

L Laura Brooks 2 months ago
Dext (used to be Receipt Bank) feels more tailored for serious bookkeeping and accountants, and the data extraction is way more accurate in my experience. Expensify is more general expense management.

I switched from Expensify to Dext and found the integration with my accounting software much smoother. Plus, the OCR is just better here, less manual fixing needed.

If I get the annual plan, can I cancel it early and get a refund for the unused months?

M Mia R. 2 months ago
I'm pretty sure you're committing to the full year when you sign up for annual billing. It's usually a cost saving because you're paying upfront.

I Ivy S. 2 months ago
Afraid not, once you're on the annual plan, you're locked in for the year. You save money but lose flexibility.

Anyone know if Dext integrates well with QuickBooks Online? That's what I'm using now.

J Jared 2 months ago
Yup, integrates seamlessly. I've been using it with QBO for ages, no issues. It's a standard integration for them.

B Beth Hughes 2 months ago
It's one of their main things, so should be good. My accountant uses it with Xero, which is similar.

What's the deal with Dext Prepare vs Dext Precision? Which one should I even look at for just basic receipt scanning?

P Priya 1 month ago
Prepare is probably what you want for scanning and extracting data. Precision is more for accountants managing multiple clients, like deep insights and stuff.
0
T Troy Brooks 1 month ago
Yeah, Prepare is the core product for just getting your docs into the system. Precision is next level for practice management.

Are there any public discount codes for Dext? Their pricing looks a bit steep for a freelancer.

N Nina T. 1 month ago
Public codes are super rare, honestly. Mostly it's through accounting firms or special events.
2
L Laura Y. 1 month ago
I've never seen a public one, just partner-specific ones or the annual billing discount that saves you a bit.
